(A photo of my own)

One evening by the Han River, I watched the sunset paint the sky in a yellow and orange hue, reminding me of the oranges in Jeju Island. If Seoul were a person, perhaps its name would be River, with the surname Han, and I was certain that I would fall in love with Mr. Han River.

Before deciding to study at Sungkyunkwan University, I knew it wouldn’t be easy for me as a foreigner living in Korea. I had to handle everything on my own: my visa, accommodation, preparing breakfast, and so on. Now, after a year in Korea, things have gone surprisingly well. I’ve received a lot of help from Koreans. For example, when I was confused about where to wait for the bus at the airport, asking for directions at the subway station, or buying food with my limited Korean.

I still vividly remember last winter, when I missed my parents but couldn’t call them because they were at work. So I decided to go to the Han River to enjoy the evening. While I was happily taking photos of the riverside, an elderly man kindly offered to take a picture of me with the Han River. Such a simple gesture, yet it touched me deeply. Before leaving, he said, “Enjoy in Korea” A line that brought a smile to my face.

I fully understand that life is not always smooth; every life has its shadows and light moments, but I just want to thank the Han River, which always calms my bad days with its sunsets, its flowing waters, and the colors of the sky. I truly love you, Han River!

Once again, I find myself marveling at the Han River, for what feels like the thousandth time.
